Lindsey Coen-Fernandez, owner and master trainer of Rough-Fit Comprehensive Outdoor Fitness Solutions of Orange County, California, combined motivational skills and business savvy honed during a successful career in high-tech corporate sales management to launch Rough-Fit in 2002.
The company was a natural fit for Lindsey, a lifelong athlete and outdoor enthusiast. Her love for sports encompasses some of the most challenging, including hockey, rugby, tennis, squash, ultra-marathoning, mountain biking and swimming.
Lindseys training programs motivate men and women of all fitness levels and age groups. She is a riveting motivational speaker who inspires her audiences to attempt lifestyle changes they never imagined possible. Lindsey endeavors to coach each client toward measurable, individualized goals using her innovative Possibilities, Opportunities and Goals, or POG, system. Her proprietary POG system teaches individuals how to create, prioritize, manage and achieve their unique possibilities, opportunities and goals.
She also draws on her own ultra-marathon, marathon and triathlon experiences to coach people in a progressive, quantifiable and rewarding manner. Her summit of Kilimanjaro in 2004 was one of the most challenging personal experiences she has endured, and she shares with clients many of the strategies that enabled her to attain this grueling goal.

Since Rough-Fit was founded, it has become one of Orange County's most recognized outdoor fitness programs, more than tripling its client base each year, with a 90 percent member renewal rate. Since founding the company, Lindsey has worked to build key alliances between Rough-Fit and other local businesses and organizations, in keeping with her philosophy that contributing to the well being of ones community is an essential component of personal fitness and health.

An avid proponent of community involvement, Lindsey founded the annual Rubber Boot race to raise funds for the Santa Ana Naturalist Program. In 2006, she launched "Phila Jabula: Comrades in Health" as a means of participating in the betterment of her native South Africa.

Lindsey immigrated to the United States from South Africa in 1987. Prior to launching Rough-Fit, she served as the Southwest District Sales Manager for Intel Online Services, where she coached a team of account managers selling managed IT services, built alliances with top industry partners, closed several multi-million dollar deals and worked in numerous start-up initiatives with Fortune 100 companies.

Lindsey holds a Master of Science degree in Exercise Science and Health Promotion and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Public Relations and Public Administration, as well as certifications from the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM) and the American Council on Exercise as a Certified Personal Trainer and Lifestyle and Weight Management Consultant. Lindsey has contributed to or been featured in numerous media, including Outside Magazine, Self, Fitness Magazine, The Los Angeles Times, The Orange County Register, Tustin News, KOCE TV's "Inside OC", Senior Living and local network newscasts. She was named National Academy of Sport Medicine's "Fitness Professional of the Quarter" in 2005.

Greg Moe, 24, is the newest and youngest member of the Rough-Fit team. But don't let his age deceive you. Greg has a long history in endurance sports from triathlon to collegiate rowing.

With a Bachelor of Science from UC Berkeley, he also brings a background in Environmental Education. Greg's passion revolves around getting people active and outdoors. As an interpretive park ranger in Oregon, Greg focused on exposing families to new adventures and inspiring visitors to become more aware of their environment.
Greg has also spent time as a field naturalist, guiding elementary school classes on outdoor field trips. "There are so many benefits associated with getting involved in outdoor activities - from increases in personal health to a greater awareness of nature and a healthier environment."

Greg believes that his greatest strength as a trainer is his ability to get clients to reach outside of their comfort zone to try new things. "It is important to consistently give yourself new and exciting challenges. I try to keep a constant sense of adventure in my own life, and hopefully I can inspire others to do the same."
Currently Greg is training for Olympic distance triathlons and hoping to be a competitive age grouper. Eventually, he hopes to compete in Ironman triathlons and qualify for Kona.

Greg is certified as a personal trainer through the National Academy of Sports Medicine, and holds First Aid / CPR / AED certification through the Red Cross. He currently resides in Lake Forest, CA and enjoys running, cycling, rock climbing, and basically anything outdoors.
Ann Tarantine, a 40-year-old mother of two, joined Rough-Fit as a personal trainer in 2005. As a long-time ardent runner and weight-lifter, she was looking for an outlet through which to share her knowledge and "hopefully help people become less intimidated by the whole weight-lifting thing".

Ann's greatest strength as a trainer is her ability to help each client find his or her own ideal fitness routine.
"Although achieving a level of fitness is necessary for health reasons, and there are certain basic things that need to be done to get there, I do believe it's important to try to make it work for each individual person's needs and interests," she says. "I love to run and cruise through Peter's Canyon because it's the one place where I can achieve my `Zen moment'. However, for a client who has no interest in that kind of Zen moment, I would guide him or her to the basic running level needed to attain functional fitness and then encourage him or her to find a personal Zen activity."

Ann's clients appreciate her attention to efficient time management"Chop-chop, let's maximize our time, here!!!"and as a mirror to their accomplishments. "Giving clients specific feedback as to what they have done allows the clients to view themselves as athletic in their own right, enabling them to eventually take charge of their own fitness journey. It is rewarding to see a client become a confident participant in the movement world."

Ann is certified as a personal trainer by the National Academy of Sports Medicine. When not running or training her Rough-Fit clients, Ann is a stay-at-home mom, consummate volunteer at school, church and soccer, and a silent partner in her husband's restaurant business. She previously taught elementary school in Redondo Beach and was nominated "Young Educator of the Year" at Madison Elementary School in 1995. In her spare time, she loves gardening and travel. Ann and her family live in Irvine.

Tammy Zwolinski, 36, is the newest Rough-Fit team member. She became a Rough-Fit client in late 2004 as part of a work-life balance program offered through her husband's company and discovered how much she enjoyed it. She recently accepted Rough-Fit owner Lindsey Fernandez's invitation to become a certified trainer and join the company full-time.

Tammy believes physical fitness is "a life-long commitment". "It is important to make exercise a normal part of your day for the rest of your life," she says. "Keep it interesting and find out what types of activities you enjoy, so that you will always want to keep active."
Her most important strength as a trainer is her concern for the success of her clients. "I will put a lot of time into helping clients stay motivated and into helping them reach their fitness goals."

Tammy says one of her biggest personal fitness challenges has been integrating fitness into her schedule at least six days a week. "My goal was to make exercise a part of my normal daily schedule without even thinking about it, kind of like getting up to take a shower and brushing my teeth. This was very difficult, because I often would allow work and other obligations to take priority over my fitness, and it was very easy to fall out of my exercise routine. If I went on vacation, when I got back I wouldn't return to my exercise routine. I would lose my motivation, gain my weight back and be back at square one. Since joining Rough-Fit and making a true commitment to my own fitness, I have surprised myself. I look forward to my daily workouts. It has made a huge difference in all areas of my life.
Another of Tammy's major challenges has been to record what she eats. "I didn't want to write down my calories initially because I didn't want to take the 'pleasure' out of eating or make it seem like a job. But once I started documenting my calories, I noticed major results, and I learned a ton about what I was eating. I no longer eat chips every day!"

Tammy is certified as a personal trainer through the National Academy of Sports Medicine and holds a CPR certification. Tammy has a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration and a CPA and worked as an accountant for nearly 14 years before joining Rough-Fit. She and her husband live in Irvine, California, and she enjoys skiing, hiking, bicycling, tennis, golf and photography.

Jeannine du Preez, 30, began training with Rough-Fit in spring 2003 and joined the Rough-Fit team a short time later, where she put her background in public relations and marketing to work and became certified as a personal trainer.

Today, in addition to her duties as Rough-Fit Remote trainer, she produces Rough-Fit's marketing materials and Web site updates.
Jeannine's training philosophy is "Make friends with your body." "If your body's not treating you well, it's probably because you're not treating it well," she says. "Due to the way we live and work, exercise has become an absolute necessity - even on those days when we're tired and don't feel like it."
She also believes everyone can benefit from professional instruction. "I've seen so many people working out on their own who aren't getting the full benefit of the exercise or, even worse, are doing something that could cause injury. I really believe in the science behind everything we do!"

Jeannine says her main strength as a trainer is that she addresses every aspect of her clients' lives. "I know what's going on in their lives, their work, the challenges they face, all their bad eating habits, etcetera. Those are all things that have an influence on whether they will reach their exercise and lifestyle goals. "I also try to make the time my clients spend with me a time to regenerate, to switch off from the daily grind and just focus on themselves."

Jeannine says her greatest personal fitness challenge has been keeping a consistent running schedule. "I have a real love-hate relationship with running," she says. "When I'm consistent, I run very comfortably, and that's when I love it, but when I stop I really struggle to get past the mental barrier of those first few runs after a long break." She trained for and completed a half marathon in 2004. "Since then my biggest challenge has been to keep my running fitness level up, because I know how hard it is to start all over again!"

Jeannine is certified by the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM) as a Personal Trainer and by the International Fitness Association as an Aerobics & Fitness Instructor. She holds an Adult CPR Certification from the American Red Cross. Her continuing education courses include Life Coaching Skills for Health & Fitness Professionals from UCLA Extension and Biomechanics of Motherhood, Fit for Labor, Pilates Application for pelvic dysfunction, Human Movement System Dysfunction, Core strength and Back Health, Corrective and Performance Movement Conditioning, Sports Yoga, and Optimum Performance Training. She holds a National Diploma in Public Relations Management from Pretoria Technikon, South Africa. Jeannine is married and lives near Seattle, Washington. She enjoys snow skiing and hiking, scrapbooking, reading science fiction and movies.

Triana Nagel-Nelson, 38, began training with Rough-Fit's online Remote Program to prepare to run a race with her sister, Rough-Fit trainer Traci Nagel. In 2005 Triana joined the Rough-Fit team as a trainer with Rough-Fit Remote, which provides interactive online and telephone consultations for Rough-Fit clients who live outside of Southern California.

Triana's work with Rough-Fit is a continuation of her lifelong interest in health and fitness. After graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in health care administration, she worked for the Jenny Craig, Inc., weight-loss program, then for 10 years at Shriners Hospitals for Children in the motion analysis lab, working with children with cerebral palsy.
She currently works in a movement analysis laboratory, where she focuses on balance in those with Parkinson's disease and vestibular disorders.

Her biggest personal fitness challenge was becoming a runner. "I always exercised, but I had stayed status quo with fast walking for several years," she says. "When my sister challenged me a few years ago to run a 10K race with her, I thought, 'I can't run that far!!!' When my Rough-Fit Remote coach laid out my training plan, I said to myself, 'I will never be able to run that far without stopping.' It wasn't easy at first, and several times I wanted to quit. But I followed the plan, and, slowly but surely, I added to my runs and now am ADDICTED to running. Now I do all the local races and am working on speed training. I even surprised myself when I successfully placed in the top 20 percent of my age group in a recent race."

Triana believes in exercise as preventative medicine. "It's hard work, but the payoff is so rewarding," she says. "I believe fitness should be fun and part of your daily life."
Her greatest strength as a trainer is her ability "to listen and really hear," then work with the client "to put together a plan that is workable and realistic."

Triana holds a CPR certification. Triana lives in Portland, Oregon, where she and her husband parent two "wild and crazy" cairn terriers, Ruby and Lola. When not playing with her dogs, she enjoys running, swimming, hiking and other outdoor activities.

Traci Nagel, 41, began training with Rough-Fit three years ago as a "short-term" rehabilitation activity during her recovery from shoulder surgery resulting from a cardio boxing injury, but ended up staying on as a Rough-Fit trainer.

Traci believes the key to fitness is to continually visualize success and realize that goal-setting is a dynamic process and one that constantly needs evaluation, strategizing and modification.
Our minds hold us back from achieving maximum success. Stretching goals and taking oneself out of ones comfort zone creates self-confidence and success. "Setbacks and how you manage them are critical to success," she says. "Being healthy from the inside out is the most important thing for me."

Traci's strengths as a trainer include her personal experiences as an inactive, non-athletic child and someone who has struggled in the past with weight loss. "I understand how hard it is to stay motivated," she says. "I am also aware that everyone is different and try to individualize my methods of training."

Traci's greatest fitness challenge was to run a marathon. "Before Rough-Fit, I could barely run a mile without passing out and never imagined that I would complete a marathon. I have completed two in the last 15 months!"

Traci holds certifications from the National Academy of Sports Medicine in training for special populations, including youth, expectant mothers and seniors; and behavior modification. She has a Bachelor of Science degree in Business. When not training with her Rough-Fit clients, Traci serves as senior sales manager for a Newport Beach, California, resort hotel. She lives in Tustin Ranch, where she enjoys family, friends, travel and "laughing at life's adventures."
